The Richard Johnson papers, [between 1950 and 1955].

Contains information pertaining to the following wars and time periods: Spanish-American War, World War I (WWI), World War II (WWII). Contains information pertaining to the following military units and organizations: 9th Cavalry Regiment; 24th Infantry Regiment; Hospital Medical Corps. General description of the collection: The Richard Johnson papers include copies of his two memoirs written by Johnson in the early 1950s. One traces his career in the U.S. Army at various posts in Kentucky, California, Nebraska, Arizona, New Mexico, and the Philippines, where he served in the Infantry, 1899-1904, and in the Hospital (Medical) Corps, 1904-1922. Much of his duty in the latter capacity was at various post hospitals, but occasionally, he was attached to field forces which included the 9th Cavalry, 24th Infantry, various detachments of the Philippine Scouts and Constabulary, and the Philippine National Guard Division raised during WWI. The other recollection covers his experiences in the Philippines during WWII (particularly while an internee in the Santo Tomas Camp, but also for a month before being captured and for three months after he was liberated.).
